SHARP OBJECTS ~ by Gillian Flynn

A sick, but entertaining ride.

Although, I had just been telling someone that I liked how Gillian Flynn didn’t have to go crass to get her twisted across. Then this book went crass. Kind of disappointed about that. She didn’t have to. She didn’t have to throw the F word around and use sex, but she did.

One thing that really bothered me was the use of a dollhouse. Supposedly this dollhouse is a scale model of the mother’s Victorian. The furniture, walls, etc. are custom made to match. This would not be a lightweight plaything. Yet it kept moving. Amma’s playing with it out on the porch, she’s playing with it in the living room, she’s playing with it in her upstairs bedroom. No word on how it got there, who was carrying this massive and heavy thing from room to room. I know that shouldn’t bother me. But it does.

It bothers me even more than some of the other plot holes, which were probably more important.

Bottom line though, I enjoy Gillian Flynn’s writing style. I enjoy that she can create a whole book of seriously flawed characters with little to like about them and yet I’m still interested in reading.
